In January of 2018, I opened the yoga studio alongside my mum, Nanda Coelho, with the intention of developing a vibrant community in Rio where people can feel "em Casa"… at home.

The Casa has two spaces and provides a full schedule of classes with different styles of yoga and therapies. We also welcome professionals who are interested in hiring the space to deliver their workshops, lectures and teacher training courses.

Additionally, since opening the studio in 2018 we have been running an international residency program for yoga teachers and massage therapists. We have hosted amazing individuals from the US, France, Austria, as well as other states of Brazil. It has proven to be an incredibly enriching and valuable cultural exchange experience. If you want to spend some time in Brazil and share your passion, get in touch!

A short history

The Casa has an important role in the history of Urca, the neighbourhood where it is located. It was in this property that my grandmother, Lucia Coelho, founded the school NAU (Núcleo de Artes da Urca) in 1976; a cultural and artistic center that pioneered children’s education through art. It was here that she founded the award-winning theatre company Navegando, which devoted over 40 years of work to children’s theatre, with a team of actors and artists that are now established in their field. Further, in the early 1900's my great-great grandfather, Oscar de Almeida Gama, was one of the engineers responsible for the landfill of the neighbourhood, managing the construction of the Casino and developing the quay that connected the beach of Saudade to the Fortress of São João, starting the neighbourhood.

Rooted in the artistic sensitivity we inherit from the Coelho family, we fell in love with the spiritual and therapeutic work of yoga & meditation. Sharing this practice from a place of integrity is one of our missions. As a response to the big buildings and gated communities out there, we have opened the doors of our home to nurture a society with more heartfelt exchange and less division.

As my grandmother used to say:

"I believe my work is in service to make the world be a better place. It’s a work that is intended to save humankind, because when you are immersed in it… there is no doubt, no fear, no filter! You are pure. You are real. You are closer to God and God is closer to you. I have no idea who God is and who am I. But one is closer to the other. Always."
