A call to depth: retreat with Christian Coelho
23-25 October 2026, Norfolk UK
“The business of stories is not enchantment. The business of stories is not escape. The business of stories is not to make us feel better. The business of stories is waking up.”
- Martin Shaw
Myths and stories of cultures around the world all point to a pivotal point in our inner journey: the prompt to leave the familiar and discover new depths of our human experience. Something moves under the skin and we are guided, often through some form of disruption, into a fundamental shift of orientation in our lives. This deeper call, wherever it comes from, always involves a symbolic death and rebirth that ultimately shapes us to be of greater service.
Yoga has always provided individuals with a container, a holding, for these deeper experiences. As we bring heat into the physical body, tap into the power of our breath, and examine our patterns, we reconnect to our true essence and remember our place in the world. Similarly, storytelling is one of the greatest cultural vehicles we have for studying ourselves and the world, providing us with a poetic space for our imagination to flourish.
This retreat is an opportunity to dive into these two worlds, reflecting how these fit within the wider issues we face collectively, whilst being immersed in a magical setting in the UK countryside. Join me for a weekend that integrates physical practice, meditation, ceremony, bodywork, storytelling and music by the fire, wild swimming, community, and a breath away from our daily routines.
